One year ago I finally got up the nerve to make a move and change me and my son’s life for the better- or so I thought. It took me almost 12 years to make the decision to finally leave the place where we had been. I knew for a long time the kind of emotional damage being done to my son and myself by being surrounded by negative people who never wanted to see us succeed. It was a hard decision because, after all, I had always been told I would never make it. In the end I knew I had to do it for my son so that he could learn how to grow up to be a good, caring person instead of a negative, abusive person.

After we moved here everything seemed to be great for the first few months. Then it went south. We lived with a family member for a while. That turned into a huge emotional disaster that we have not fully recovered from. The company I planned on working for took a lot longer to hire me on than they originally stated. After 2 months with the company they laid me off. The union still has yet to put me back to work although they promise it will happen. My grandmother died 3 months after we moved out here from a long battle with cancer. Even though I know she is now in peace it really tore me up. Then to top it off my son’s father committed suicide a few weeks later. No person in the world should ever have to tell their child that a parent is dead much less from suicide. My son is doing better now but it has been a very rocky road. We have our own place and I have been working contract and temporary jobs until I can find something permanent.

Since my work is not steady my bills are starting to add up. I was going to get caught up and get our annual health checks done with taxes. Alas, this was not to be as my truck broke down and it took our refund to get it fixed. We really need help financially. I would like to be able to get us both into the doctor, dentist, and optometrist for our annual exams. I know I need new glasses and I am pretty sure that my son does as well. I also want to be able to get caught up on bills and buy some summer clothes for my son. I have some outstanding debt from studentloans and medical bills. Of course if my son was typing this he would ask for a trip to Disney World too. All I can tell him is “Baby steps my love, baby steps”.

I have always been a hard worker.  I have not been without a steady job for 16 years until we moved.  I hate to ask for help but we really need it. As for the family back home, all I will get is a “We told you so”.  All I want is for us to be able to be happy and healthy. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
