Failed Business Is About To Pull Us Under!
 |
Four years ago, I started my own business, with the
idea of growing the business to be able to hire other
stay-at-home moms (or dads) such as myself. (Due
to my son's medical issues, I am not able to work
outside the home, and he has had to be home-schooled.)
With a great deal of excitement, I found wholesalers,
purchased products for inventory, and set myself up on
the internet with a store. It was a lot of hard
work, but I wanted to help support my family and try
to extend that to others who were in similar
situations as mine. |
 |
The first two years, business was brisk, but I wasn't
quite breaking even on all the expenses and costs
related to running the business. People kept
telling me it really takes 3 to 4 years to turn a
profit, so I kept at it, hoping and praying for a
miracle. Once the economy started flagging, the
mortgage meltdown began, and gas prices started
climbing, though, my sales volume started slipping.
Fewer and fewer people had disposible income, and my
products were now considered indulgences or luxuries
for them. |
 | My lowest month, I
made just $60. I didn't want to give up, so I
lowered prices, even offered free shipping, to no
avail. I thought, "If I could just get
through this, I'll be ok." But the
inventory started piling up, creditors started getting
smaller payments and started getting them late, and I
finally closed the business last month after a little
over four years of trying to make it work. I
have liquidated most of my inventory at prices lower
than what we paid,
but I am still saddled with a staggering amount of
business debt - $37K. |
 | With the added
pressure of wondering how to pay for our other bills,
even just to get groceries for the week, I am losing
sleep and my 8 year old son is picking up on my
stress. He wants to start working to get money
for the family, and it brings me to tears to hear him
say that. A child should not have to worry about
his parents financial situation. |
 | I was not able to pay
myself a salary for the past four years - every penny
I made went right back into the business to pay the
business expenses. My husband is in real estate,
and most of you know how "well" that is
going right now. I am hoping to find my angels
out there who will help us from going under. We
are so afraid of losing everything we have worked so
hard for. ANY amount of donations will help us.
If you can spare $1 or $5 today, we will be very
grateful for your support.
