WORRIED AND PANICKING.....JOB LOSS.....HELP
 | My story starts out
with losing my job. This is the wrong time for this to
happen, with what is going on in the economy. This is
also my second job loss in less than 3 years. The
first on happened 3 years ago. The company I was with
for 25 years declared bankruptcy and eventually went
out of business because it couldn’t get financing.
This was a 80 year old company....gone! Our only
retirement program was a ESOP program. I didn’t know
at the time, but when you declare bankruptcy you lose
your ESOP funds for good. So basically it was starting
over again. |
| The job I had after
this was in the same industry. The owner had
competition move in a few years before but while sales
were down he felt that a turn around was coming. I was
making less than half of what I was with my first
company, but I was getting buy. Things happened, he
got a divorce and sales (I’m in Michigan) were still
tanking. He found out that the cost of the divorce was
too great and he eliminated several people, myself
included. He basically said he couldn’t afford us.
He offered no severance, just good bye and good luck. |
| I have no cushion to
work with. My son is getting married this summer and
the hope was to get married in our backyard. My
wife who is very supportive works, but makes the
minimum and while its something , it is not going to
save our house. I’m terrible worried that I will
lose the house. This is causing great stress. We
were planning on retiring eventually and living
in this house. I have sent our many resumes but
with this economy I’m not having any luck, either
locally or out of State. |
| Basically, I need
more time. I can’t believe I have come to begging
for help. At 54 years old I feel I have many years to
contribute, but in the job market it seems that 54 is
considered past prime. I need help with my
living expenses. I know there are people worse
off than myself, but if there is a way to help me I
would greatly appreciate this and feel that when I am
working again I will remember any kind help with
support myself. |
