"Beware of The Giving
Trap!"
Beware of the Giving Trap

Is there such a thing as “The Giving Trap?” I
believe there is. I have always been a “giver.”
Anytime a person has needed my help in anyway, I have
been there for them. Whether it was time, my skills or
money, I was always the one people could count on. I
still am. But something happened along the way, in my
journey through life. If you are a giver also, you may
be able to relate to what I am about to say, and
hopefully you will glean some wisdom from what I have
learned. |

As a Giver, I have always lovingly made myself
available. But I did something else that I am trying
to make amends for. I rejected others giving back to
me. I never needed a thank you note, or even a verbal
thank you, because I always knew people were thankful
for what I could give to them or how I could bless
them. The Law of Reciprocity is always at work, and
what a person gives, they will get back. It always
comes full circle. I never looked at what I could get
out of a situation, and my motives were always to
help…nothing more. If someone wanted to do something
nice for me, I felt weird about that, and often would
graciously decline the gesture. Money has always been
there when I have needed it, so in my mind, I thought
nothing of declining a money gift, and usually later,
some how the money would come to me anyway.
This is the Giving Trap! When a Giver declines other
peoples’ best intentions, life begins wondering down
a different road. |
Are you a Giver? Are you in the Giving Trap right
now? I will tell you how you can know for sure you are
in one!

Do you decline other people doing things for you?
Whether it is a kind word, complement, doing something
nice for you or even declining money because you
believe you don’t need any money? |

Are you surrounded by people that you know you can
help, BUT THEY REJECT YOUR GIFTS, ADVICE, OR ANYTHING
ELSE YOU HAVE? |

These are the two points that govern the Giving Trap.
You see, as a Giver, you are working with the
unbreakable Law of Reciprocity! You get what you give.
If you are always giving, the universe always will
give back, but maybe it will look quite different from
what you thought you would receive back!
Your heart could be so beautiful, open and pure, and
yet for some reason, no matter what you do, there are
members of your own family or friends that will not
accept your gifts, or gestures of love. Their lives
are filled with drama, and you have within your grasp
the ability to help them, but they reject it. Think
back in your life! How often did others want to give
to you, but you rejected their gesture of love? |

This is where I am at right now in my life. I need to
right a wrong that I have done. I kept others from
giving to me! I kept the “high” for myself. Givers
need to also be gracious Receivers. To accept lovingly
what others would like to give. It may be very
difficult for someone who is not normally a giver, to
actually reach out and offer something lovingly, and
rejecting a gift, no matter how large or small, will
come back later to haunt us. It haunts me right now!
If you are a Giver, and you are now resorting to
giving anonymously, or giving donations to
organizations, and your giving has become impersonal,
ask yourself why. Have others rejected your kind
gifts? Hopefully you have not reached that phase of
your life and you are not in a Giving Trap. If you
are, I encourage you to get a page also on this

You may be saying to yourself, “But I don’t need
money!” That is not the point. Givers do not have
problems with money. It isn’t about the money, it is
about allowing others to become givers, and to
RECEIVE with love and gratitude. Givers always give
their money away to a good cause or to someone who
needs it. Their lives have a beautiful fragrance of
joy and abundant living…but when they enter a Giving
Trap, often they hide the fact that they can not help
those that are often closest to them!
